First up is a video of Lanvin’s Fall 2011 campaign, starring Raquel Zimmerman and Karen Elson. While we’re sure that the print ads will be in a September fashion magazine issue near you, we never would have imagined Pitbull providing the soundtrack – or Alber Elbaz popping in for an adorably off beat cameo.

Next up is a video for the Westfield Stratford City mall, which will open in East London on September 13th. The Viral Factory condensed 100 years of London fashion into 100 seconds. We imagine that between the perfectly coordinated soundtrack, dance steps and outfit changes, it actually took quite a bit more time to pull the video together.

Finally, while it’s not completely fashion related, Taiwanese animators NMA already have ideas about the style of little Bey-Z (Beyonce and Jay-Z’s future child). Video Jay-Z looks more like Reggie Bush, but that small detail aside, in less than 2 minutes we get a peek at Nicki Minaj as the nanny, Kanye West declaring Beyonce’s holy pregnancy the greatest of all time, and a little guy who can not only smoke cigars with dad, but put on a leotard while mom sings about putting a ring on it as well. In a few years, this will all come full circle and we’ll keep an eye out for the little guy or gal breaking out the synchronized moves for Lanvin’s 2031 campaign.

Oh Baby! Beyonce Announces Her Pregnancy At the MTV Video Music Awards https://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/oh-baby-beyonce-announces-her-pregnancy-at-the-mtv-video-music-awards https://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/oh-baby-beyonce-announces-her-pregnancy-at-the-mtv-video-music-awards#respond Mon, 29 Aug 2011 02:53:46 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=21089

Beyonce has managed the biggest fashion surprise of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, but not for any outrageous costume.

The nearly 30-year-old singer debuted the first (beautiful, bright, Lanvin) maternity dress of the evening, and all but confirmed her pregnancy by conspicuously displaying her baby bump and asking the audience to feel “the love growing inside” her when taking the stage.

In spite of years of rumors suggesting that they were expecting, this will be the first child for both Beyonce and husband Jay-Z.

And, may we add, the start of one seriously stylish pregnancy wardrobe. Congratulations!

Beyonce’s House of Deréon and Betsey Johnson Revive the Fashionable Faux Ink of the 90s https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/beyonces-house-of-dereon-and-betsey-johnson-revive-the-fashionable-faux-ink-of-the-90s https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/beyonces-house-of-dereon-and-betsey-johnson-revive-the-fashionable-faux-ink-of-the-90s#comments Mon, 27 Sep 2010 14:17:27 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16083 Last Thursday kicked off of the 6th edition of the London International Tattoo Convention, where up to 20,000 attendees gather to learn and share ideas and innovations in the tattoo market. Industry insiders, tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts come together to marvel at the intricate workmanship, new technologies and professional insights that expand and update the industry yearly. In this past week not one, but two fashion labels are following the trend that Chanel kicked off last year, and have included temporary tattoos as part of their upcoming collections.

First, Beyonce and her stylist mother, Tina, have teamed up with airbrushing company, Temptu to create limited-edition body art kits for the House of Deréon Fall 2010 ad campaign. The temporary tattoos will be available this November 1st in Deréon’s signature fleur-de-lis icon, rock ‘n roll, jewelry, and spider designs. They are waterproof and created to last two to five days. The kits will range from basic to deluxe and will be sold for $16 to $34 at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com, temptu.com and dereon.com, while supplies last. {Stylelist}

Betsey Johnson is the second designer to dabble in temporary tattoos, offering a recent collection of jewelry-deigned faux ink. The pearl, jeweled and chain-linked designs are created to mimic and exaggerate women’s accessories with an edgy, punk-rock twist. {High Snobette}

We aren’t sure how many people will rock the faux body art, but so far there is already a waiting list for Beyonce’s collection. Temporary tattoos are, of course, nothing super new – in the 90s they were all over the place. Unlike the temporary tattoos of the past, which often tried to appeal to a general audience, the latest versions are decidedly counting on more feminine details and designs. What about you? Would you revive the fake tattoo trend for fashion’s sake, or are you in favor of a more committed permanent inking?

Is He Worth It? Gerard Butler is the New Face of L’Oreal Paris https://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-grooming/is-he-worth-it-gerard-butler-is-the-new-face-of-loreal-paris https://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-grooming/is-he-worth-it-gerard-butler-is-the-new-face-of-loreal-paris#comments Mon, 02 Aug 2010 13:01:00 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14886 Scottish lawyer-turned-actor Gerard Butler is the new worldwide spokesperson (sans the U.S.) for the L’Oreal Paris Men’s Expert line.

Gerard will join the list of genetically blessed celebrities who have endorsed the beauty brand, which includes Beyonce, Eva Longoria Parker, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson.

The actor seemed enthusiastic about his partnership on L’Oreal’s Hydra Energetic line saying to femalefirst.co.uk, “I’m excited to be working with L’Oreal Paris. I have always liked the quality and innovation of their products.”

Ruggedly handsome? Sure. But when we think of face wash, shave balm and moisturizer, Gerard Butler isn’t the first face that comes to mind. Still, we say good for him for finally putting those good looks to endorsement use!

No Fragrance Deal for Lady Gaga (Yet) https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/no-fragrance-deal-for-lady-gaga-yet https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/no-fragrance-deal-for-lady-gaga-yet#respond Thu, 15 Jul 2010 19:47:49 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14206 A rumor that Lady Gaga signed on with Coty Inc. to create a perfume began in the U.K. and spread through fashion media outlets this week, but now the fragrance company’s marketing department has said it is not true. {The Cut}

As long as any prospective fragrances smell better than those glasses, we're sure it will do fine

“I know nothing of this project,” Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for the firm’s Coty Beauty division Steve Mormoris told WWD. “It is a totally false rumor.”

It is easy to see how the rumor spread so easily since Coty leads the celebrity fragrance trend with past and present scents from Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé Knowles, Sarah Jessica Parker, David and Victoria Beckham and Halle Berry in addition to some 10 others. It seems, however, the extent of Gaga’s involvement in the beauty biz remains with MAC Cosmetics. She is the spokeswoman for the brand’s AIDS Fund and collaborated with MAC to create a signature Viva Glam lipstick. {WWD}

Even though Gaga is not working on a scent yet, we’re betting she will be at some point. The Cut’s bloggers have been speculating what it will smell like, but we think the more interesting aspect will be the bottle design, which is more likely to be the focus of Gaga’s creative weirdness. Maybe the cap will resemble a hair bow, or perhaps the entire thing will look like a hand reaching up in the spirit of the design of the double grand piano she shared with Elton John at this year’s Grammy Awards. Leave a comment and tell us what you think it will look like!

Padded Panties Prove Butt is Back in a Big Way https://198.46.88.49/style/padded-panties-prove-butt-is-back-in-a-big-way https://198.46.88.49/style/padded-panties-prove-butt-is-back-in-a-big-way#respond Tue, 13 Jul 2010 21:50:12 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14074 The idea of an ass bra is just plain hilarious, right? Or is it?

Remember the days when women with large bums covered up in sarongs and oversized shirts to hide their supposed genetic misfortune? We don’t know if it started with Sir Mix-A lot’s obsession with Oakland booties, JLo’s most infamous asset, Venus Williams’ pension for showcasing her backside with itty bitty lingerie-like tennis gear, Kim Kardashian’s derriere or Beyonce’s gloriously fierce curves, but somehow it is now officially trendy to have a big butt. So trendy, in fact, that New York Daily News dedicated an entire feature to the phenomenon.

New York Magazine suggests that fuller bottoms are back (pun intended) since many Spring 2010 runway collections featured short shorts. Following that logic, this might be something Lady Gaga, a.k.a. she who never wears pants, is responsible for.

Regardless of the cause for the trend (It’s probably a combination of all these reasons), a slew of new products have hit the market to help women with flatter rears fill out as a result.

The Ass Bra is our favorite, especially because of its name. A few variations of it are available, and it works by squeezing the thigh area under your bottom and resting under the cheeks to give them a boost. Padded panties like Pure Style Girlfriends Bump-A-Booty Padded Panties look like the most comfortable option, and the $30 underwear is apparently quite popular. You can also get Bali Comfort Shape Hi-Waist Thigh Slimmer, which looks and works basically like a Spanx but squeezes the thighs tight to make the butt appear larger. {SheFinds}

Our initial reaction is to bust out laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, but if you think about it, padded panties or ass bras are really no more insane than the push up bra, Spanx or chicken cutlets. Actually, we’re surprised no one thought of this sooner, and the padded panties might prove really comfortable to sit on at work all day despite the extra baggage’s potential to be too warm in the summer months. We also prefer deceiving undergarments to plastic surgery like the Brazilian Butt Lift and other augmentation procedures. Padded panties are less permanent.

Our No. 1 recommended way to get in on the “It” body part of the moment is to work for it. The backside is one area of the body that can really change in appearance from consistent exercise to target the area, and firmed muscles are an ideal way to give your rear a boost. Check out Shape Magazine’s ultimate butt workout here to get started!

Mariah Carey and Shakira Debut the Latest Celebrity Scents https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/mariah-carey-and-shakira-debut-the-latest-celebrity-scents https://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/mariah-carey-and-shakira-debut-the-latest-celebrity-scents#respond Thu, 24 Jun 2010 15:44:56 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=13405 Celebrities often venture into the fragrance and beauty industry in the hopes of creating a product their image can sell. It has proven to be a lucrative move for stars looking to take full advantage of their selling power.

Shakira at the launch of her S fragrance in Madrid

If you’ve ever wondered why it seems that every singer or actress seems to be pushing a perfume lately, it’s because of the high margins. Celebrities can get paid an upfront of anywhere from $2 million to $5 million. If the fragrance does well? Annual revenue can be as high as $100 million a year, with very little effort in terms of promotions or marketing. {Fashionista} Where do we sign up?

Celebrity scents have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years and we’ve covered some of those from Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyoncé and more recently (as in yesterday) Shakira.

If a fragrance could give you a cavity, it would probably have a name like Lollipop Bling

Madrid held the celebration for Shakira’s new S perfume boasting notes of benzoin, amber, vanilla, fresh woods and Indian jasmine Sambac. This is the Colombian singer’s second fragrance. The first, Amuleto, was launched in France in 2008.

Mariah Carey, in all her sweet, pink and sugary, 12-years-old forever glory has also indulged fans with the latest addition to her fragrance repertoire with Lollipop Bling. Yes, it does seem appropriately named for  smelling like a more “sophisticated interpretation of bubble gum.”

Now, we know what you’re thinking, candy-scented perfume? Well, looking a little deeper at the brand’s strategy it becomes more sensible. The product is not in a fancy glass bottle- but a gumball machine! Capitalizing on her younger audience, Mariah has teamed with Elizabeth Arden who’s no stranger to the fragrance industry (they also produce Britney Spears’ scents).

Elizabeth Arden is planning on marketing the scents–Honey, Mine Again and Ribbon–using gumball machine gift sets and a lollipop rollerball fragrance set starting this Fall. (The scents sans gimmicky packaging are $35 a pop (pun intended), and will be available at department stores nationwide in July 2010.)

So it’s incredibly refreshing to hear that rap mogul and super-celeb Jay-Z is one of those few gentlemen in the spotlight who has nothing but respect for the leading lady in his life.

Jay-Z attended the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and after-party in New York City this past week and, whereas countless other men would kill their own mothers for a chance to rub shoulders with beautiful VS models, Jay-Z deliberately declined any contact with the women out of respect for his wife Beyoncé.

Style is more than just clothing and color palettes, and we’re glad to see that chivalry is still very much alive and well.
