Nooka's glow in the dark sunglasses for those of you who wear them at night.

Is this some kind of trick? On Wednesday, The Fashion Spot tweeted a sneak peak of a pair of Nooka Glow in the Dark Mercury Sunglasses to be made available in March on nooka.com.

The shades are pretty cool if you like the swallowed-up face look (which these days, most people do), and we admit it did take us a minute to figure out the problem here. This is it: What is the point of glow in the dark sunglasses? Aren’t sunglasses meant to be worn in the bright light? Isn’t that their purpose? To shade your eyes from bright sun light?

We know celebrities like Usher and other Joe-cool types like to wear their sunglasses at night, but we can’t really see Usher wearing these to the next big awards show or Hollywood event he attends, and the average person doesn’t go out with shades on at night.

No word on how much the glow in the dark sunglasses will cost yet, but regular Nooka Mercury Sunglasses – which come in neon colors as well as black and white – go for $130. Why do all these IEJ products always have such a hefty price tag? Save your pennies for something that makes more sense.

Latest in Customization: Prada Sunglasses https://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/latest-in-customization-prada-sunglasses https://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/latest-in-customization-prada-sunglasses#respond Thu, 18 Nov 2010 21:55:24 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16797 It wasn’t too long ago that we brought you news of customizable chocolate bars as the latest in a long line of products that you can personalize in this day and age, and now designer sunglasses have been added to the list of items you can make your own.

A new collection of shades from Prada will come complete with tiny letter, number and symbol squares that can be inserted into the sides of the frames where the brand’s logo normally sits. There is a heart, a star, a dollar sign and an exclamation point among other characters, and you can use them in any combination you want, if of course you have the $365 to spend on a pair of these sunglasses. {The Cut}

Sunglass Hut will have them on sale in black, tortoiseshell and white. The earpieces come apart to allow insertion of the personalization characters, but you can choose only two to put in each earpiece at a time. {stylemebad}

What do you think – are customizable shades cool or too teeny bopper? Do you like them but have no interest in paying $365 for something as fragile as sunglasses? We’re not sure what to make of it, but don’t think it will be a big enough hit and pump up Prada’s sales. Let us know your thoughts!

Christian Siriano Springs Forward with SS11 and Another Line for Payless https://198.46.88.49/style/christian-siriano-springs-forward-with-ss11-and-another-line-for-payless https://198.46.88.49/style/christian-siriano-springs-forward-with-ss11-and-another-line-for-payless#respond Mon, 13 Sep 2010 20:14:50 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15811 With New York Fashion Week officially underway, we wanted to take a closer look at one of first and highly anticipated shows to hit the runway. Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer collection hit the catwalk in unbelievable style. The “safari glam” clothes and enormous, draped evening gowns were stunners, but what really stole the show were the fierce footwear for the designer’s Payless collection.

The line was very demure, focusing on shades of red, cream and metallics. The silhouettes stood out with flowing maxi dresses, scalloped chartreuse, sleek white pants and belted mini dresses all- paired with chunky accessories.

The shoes were a spectacle all their own with varying geometric shapes, cutouts, straps and ties. In the past we have seen how adventurous Siriano can be with designing high heels, and this year was no different. The spiky, rounded and contorted designs are unique, yet feminine and classy. {Le Petite Fashionista}

There was some mixed reaction as the show’s attendees carefully examined each look.

Fashionista commented, “The problem with Siriano’s SS11 collection is that it’s caught in limbo between wearable and editorial looks. While the sportswear felt like a tribute to tried and true vacation-wear (slim white pants, leather short trenches, voluminous maxi-dresses, lone ruffles, and exotic prints) his sumptuous evening wear is a unique offering…At this point in his career, Siriano needs to choose a team and stick with it—I say drama all the way.” {Racked}

We agree that a lot of what we saw on the runway was theatrical and extravagant and not necessarily  practical for wear. The shoes in particular, although designed for Payless, will probably be heavily toned down by the time we see them hit store shelves. Either way, we will be the first in line to snag his sleek styles at a steal of a price.

Take a peek at the new nerd-chic shades from Dita and Neighborhood, now available online at honeyee — but unfortunately for the Japanese domestic market only.  We hope these babies are available in the US sometime soon, because we would love to see these on our man paired with a perfectly worn-in button-down and a superhero smile.

The Olsens Bring Sunglasses to the Row https://198.46.88.49/style/bags/olsen-twins-eyewear https://198.46.88.49/style/bags/olsen-twins-eyewear#respond Wed, 14 Oct 2009 12:47:47 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=2754 the-row-sun-glasses1-500x363

Sunglasses are a must have for the Olsen twins, mostly when the paparazzi are at their most relentless. Sharing is caring so the twins have launched an eyewear line for The Row, following their Jackie O over sized 60’s style. They claim it’s only to test the waters but they are hoping to add more to the accessories collection. With this collection we would have to say the waters are hot! The collection can be found at Barneys NY and Bergdorf Goodman from $325 to $390.
