On September 20th, auction house Philips de Pury will offer 22 Swarovski crystal adorned black dresses, with all proceeds going to benefit the American Cancer Society and La Ligue Contre le Cancer in France.

The American Heart Association has been pretty successful in raising awareness for women’s heart health with their red dress campaign. The black dress is a fashion staple for most women, so hopefully we’ll see the effort at tying it to cancer awareness and research extend even further down the fashion chain. The 22 dresses up for auction are beyond beautiful, and with any luck, a high street (mass retail, if you’re not used to the British term) chain will take a cue from the high end and find a way to incorporate this into a future designer collaboration.

Participating designers and labels include Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexis Mabille, Missoni, Marios Schwab and Diane von Furstenberg among others. Now we know some men are thinking this is crazy, but take a look at the still-hip designs they came up with. The goal was to prove that diamond-embellished menswear “can work in a commercial context and not just as statement pieces on a runway,” Swarovski’s senior VP of marketing, Markus D. Lampe, told WWD. The line shows a strong comparison to the theatrics of womens wear usually seen on the runway. It may not be the biggest hit with the guys, but we think it is inspiring to menswear, especially in tough economic times when bold and out-of-this-world fashion statements usually take a backseat.

Her newest scent, Precious Edition, is “rich, fresh, fruity and floral” and will be a limited release in celebration of winter 2009.

With fragrance notes like toffee apple and hints of praline, it sounds like the extra decoration and gorgeous, frosted pink bottle may be the visual reminder we need to remember that though it may smell good enough to eat, it’s strictly for spritzing.
