Wintour in White After Labor Day

AWThe President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities was established in 1982. On Monday, President Obama appointed 25 new members to include Sarah Jessica Parker, Forest Whitaker, Edward Norton, Yo-Yo Ma, Teresa Heinz Kerry and most notoriously, Anna Wintour.

Apparently no one is sore or compelled to re-address that a year ago, Wintour’s rep strictly reassured against her rumored move from Vogue to politics: “It’s totally not true. She won’t be working for Obama in any way.” {MSNBC}

The committee “encompasses twenty-six leading citizens from the private sector who have an interest in and commitment to the humanities and the arts.” And according to its website, sees now as “a time of opportunity to energize the cultural life of our country and enhance the role of the arts in American society.” {PCAH.gov}

Michelle Obama is the Committee’s honorary chair and enthusiastically consistent in her political purpose, which was notable among elsewhere, at the American Ballet Gala earlier this year, where she proclaimed: “The arts are not just a nice thing to have or to do if there is free time or if one can afford it … rather, paintings and poetry, music and fashion, design and dialogue, they all define who we are as a people and provide an account of our history for the next generation.”
