Celebrating the Unwearable: Fashion as Art

0922artAn exciting look into the blurred world of fashion and childhood is open in an exhibition in Rotterdam celebrating the “unwearable” elements of fashion. Running from Sept 19th through January 10th, this exhibition offers a collection of artistic fashion drawn from archives and collections from around the globe. The concept of fashion as wearable art is often discussed, but current economic times have forced designers to put heavier emphasis on practical matters such as production costs and fit rather than artistic vision and unbridled creativity. If you miss that part of fashion, lecturer Jose Teunissen of the Visual Arts Academy in Arnhem has combined garments, sculpture, objects and video to create unique and visually surreal works of art that also happen to be fashion.
