Wonder Woman’s New Digs: Love It or Hate It

Wonder Woman has been a childhood fantasy for generations of youngsters since her debut in 1941 by DC Comics. The superhero’s iconic crime-fighting ability, bathing suit and knee-highs are universally recognizable (and by most little girls, imitated).

As we fashion lovers know well, as times change so does the perception of what is “fashionable”. Throughout the years DC Comics has made several attempts to update Wonder Woman’s wardrobe to reflect the changing times but it was to no avail.

Unsuccessful attempts to modernize the character resulted in poor audience acceptance and the company inevitably returned to the original star and eagle suit. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it right?

Well, guess not. Wonder Woman has officially been suited up for 2010. DC released the character’s new 80’s-inspired digs and although we think they look pretty good,  part of the iconic nature of Wonder Woman comes from that starry one-piece. Without it she becomes someone else – plus, more people are going pantless, so wouldn’t the skimpy starred bottoms be on trend at this point? On the other hand, it’s nice that a style revision to an iconic female character actually involves more clothes for once.

Tell us what you think! Should Wonder Woman embrace the 20th century with leggings and shoulder pads or stay the  way we all remember her? {Stylelist}
