When we got wind that there may be chatter between the United States Navy and American fashion designer Ralph Lauren on the force’s new service uniforms we got pretty excited.
Aside from Michele Obama’s chic designer style, Washington, DC and New York aren’t exactly known for style exchanges. French train workers have been outfitted by Christian Lacroix, and airlines have frequently turned to designers to punch up the style for their flight crews, but we’re pretty sure designer styled military uniforms are a first.
New York City got a taste of fall this week, with temperatures dropping to the low seventies and gusty winds kicking up. Since Mother Nature dropped a little fall preview on us New Yorkers, Signature9 decided to give a fall preview as well with our favorite early autumn recipes, compiled from around the net. We’ve got crispy nuts, spicy apples and – of course – pie! Enjoy!
After the prominence of pastels and neons this summer, this fall season brings rich, jewel tones back to the front of our wardrobes. But unlike the jewel tones of falls past, this season’s colors combine the richness of fall colors with the brightness of summer’s neons. Ever heard of mass market razor blades for leg and face shaving that feature diamond-encrusted edges?
We haven’t either, but a German company called GFD, founded by a man named Andre Flöter, has been selling synthetic diamond-coated razor blades for the last seven years. Up until now, GFD only sold the blades for industrial uses such as in medical scalpels and tools that cut plastic sheeting. That’s about to change, as Flöter plans to mine his way onto drugstore shelves.
If you love fashion, thrifty finds and helping a charitable cause, they all go hand in hand at Housing Works. The place is an absolute haven for vintage and designer clothes, accessories, shoes, art, books, furniture and home goods. If that weren’t reason enough to love it, all of the proceeds from the deeply discounted deals go towards helping those who are homeless and living with HIV and AIDS.
Amazon has proved that readers want to use eReaders. The first two models of the Kindle sold fairly well, even at their relatively high prices. The newest Kindle is at a lower price with a better screen and battery than the previous versions, which has only helped the device’s popularity.
Breast cancer is an issue of vital importance among women, fashion’s largest consumer group. Since 1994 Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) has been the most successful response from the fashion community designed to raise public awareness about the importance of breast cancer research, education, screening and patient care.
Five years ago, “lip stain” were words hardly uttered by beauty gurus. Now, the beauty industry has taken to the product with everyone from Givenchy to Revlon producing their own lip stain lines.
