Sharing Makeup With Strangers: If Everyone Jumped

Dirty makeup is fine on a video, but we'll pass for everyday use

This week, we were grossed out by a story that appeared on Glamour.com about used makeup – including lipstick, foundation and brushes – that is up for sale on eBay, with plenty of bids coming in.

We thought the idea of buying makeup that a complete stranger has used was absolutely disgusting, particularly used lipstick and mascaras, but a little digging around the Internet revealed that scoring used makeup online is actually pretty common and has been going on for years now.

Macy’s and Forever 21 Will Cost More Next Year, but H&M Won’t: Here’s Why

Can you guess which one of these items will set you back $4.95?

The sourcing cost of clothing production is rising in China, where many retailers employ factories to create fast fashion for their stores. For smaller brands, the solution has been to move production to domestic hubs like Los Angeles, but larger retailers like Forever 21 and Macy’s, who need merchandise in big quantities that only China can offer, say they will be forced to pass the climbing costs on to consumers.

The Snazzy Napper: If Everyone Jumped

The Snazzy Napper: If Everyone Jumped

The Snuggie is one of those odd products that end up proving surprisingly popular with consumers, but its new successor, the Snazzy Napper (dubbed the “snazzy way to sleep while you travel”), looks like it may fall short of becoming a best-seller.

Going to Zero: The Designers Looking to Cut Fashion Waste

Going to Zero: The Designers Looking to Cut Fashion Waste

Fact: It costs less money for clothing manufacturers to throw away the scraps from their cutting room floors than to recycle them.

Fiction: Not a single designer in the world of fashion cares.

Though the Times says 15-20 percent of the fabric used to create clothing ends up in landfills, a “small but impassioned” group of designers including Mark Liu, Julian Roberts and Zandra Rhodes, in addition to students at Parsons, have dedicated themselves to working toward a “zero-waste” policy in fashion – meaning not a single scrap of fabric thrown out.

TaskRabbit Wants to Be Your Social Service Network

TaskRabbit Wants to Be Your Social Service Network

The next subdivision of social media may come down to what a new website calls “Service Networking.” Essentially, it means networking online to outsource tasks you need done and offer individual services that you can provide.

The term was coined by a Boston couple who started TaskRabbit.com. Their site was founded based on the popular conception that there is never enough time in the day to get things done, especially all the simple, common tasks of everyday life. The site suggests things like IKEA furniture assembly, airport rides and grocery runs but current tasks range from iPod playlist updating to mowing a lawn.

Are Shoppers Really to Blame for Factory Working Conditions?

If Everyone Jumped: Sweet Taxi Marketing

If Everyone Jumped: Sweet Taxi Marketing

Last week, the luxury fragrance house sent five perfumed taxi cabs out into central London to serve patrons the same way any other London black taxi would with a few exceptions. Each cab smells like either the brand’s Artemisia, Blenheim Bouquet, Endymion, Malabah or Orange Blossom perfume, and each one’s driver is specially trained to discuss Penhaligon’s fragrances and answer any questions about the brand. And Penhaligon’s is not the first company to embrace the taxi as a marketing tool.
