Fashionista Masthead Shifts

Readers of  the popular fashion blog Fashionista may have noticed a new name in the bylines recently. Lauren Sherman, a former freelance writer for Forbes.com and founder of The Fashion Beat, began writing on Monday and was formally welcomed as the new editor today.

Abby Gardner, a former editor with Jane, YM and IMG’s Fashion Week Daily, attributes the abrupt change to a new management team. “They want to take the site in a different direction. I wish them all the very best.” Gardner, who tweeted yesterday about relating to Conan O’Brien’s unceremonious reshuffling, will move to freelance editorial and writing work in the fashion and beauty markets.

New Breaking Media CEO Jonah Bloom, formerly of AdAge attributes the change to “tough decisions” about the direction of current and future publications. The parent company of Fashionista, Breaking Media’s other publications focus on law and finance.

Sherman’s writing often focus on the business aspects of fashion, and while we look forward to reading more from her, it would have been nice to see them included as an additional voice rather than a replacement.
