Malcolm McLaren: 1946-2010

Malcolm McLaren, former manager of the Sex Pistols and ex-partner of iconic British designer Vivienne Westwood, has died. McLaren and then girlfriend, Vivienne Westwood, opened a London clothing shop called Let It Rock in 1971. The shop underwent various name changes (Sex, Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die, Seditionaries) to reflect the changing clothing styles sold, but became the window to Westwood’s outrageous designs that grabbed hold of the emerging punk aesthetic.

McLaren is best known as manager of The Sex Pistols and the punk rock movement, though he later released 16 studio albums as a solo artist – many of which are seen as pre-cursors to the rise of styles like hip-hop and world music as pop culture.

He died of cancer in Switzerland at the age of 64.
