All’s Fair in Festivals and Fashion

Festival season kicked off a month ago with the Coachella Music Festival in Coachella Valley, California. The festival marked the beginning of this summer’s festival fashion trend. The look is practical, fun, and indie-inspired. Stylecaster’s coverage of Coachella fashion shows an abundance of flat sandals and comfortable clothing. Bold prints, colors and accessories take ordinary outfits to a new and unique place. Hats and sunglasses top off the look as well as protect eyes and skin from sun damage.

On the East Coast, there’s the Hester Street Fair, a local street market, in NYC. Styles at the fair are more urbanized than Coachella styles, with a predominance of sneakers and brogues in place of the flat sandals found at Coachella. Prints run more along the lines of stripes and are much less organic. Colors are mostly neutrals and the cuts of garments are sleeker and more utilitarian. Button down shirts are commonly mixed in and dressed down.{Elle}

The South by Southwest music and arts festival in Austin, Texas features elements from both coasts. Layering, like that of the New Yorkers, was prevalent, as were the shoes preferred by New Yorkers. But SXSW goers also favored the organic prints and draped, easy going shapes of the West Coast.{TeenVogue.com}

However this trend is worn, it’s evident that the adjustment from location to location makes it a go-to style for a summer’s worth of music and arts.
