3D Four-Eyes

If you’ve been to the movie theater lately, you know how much of a surge in popularity 3D movies have become. And it’s not just the actual movies that are all the rage — it’s the free, 3D glasses you get with your ticket.

Say good-bye to those ugly paper things with blue and red lenses that fall off of your face: RealD has made its way through and onto the eyes of the youth permanently.

Yeah, that’s right. Just pop out the lenses and you’ve got yourself a cheap new trend.

We all know that the fake “nerd” glasses trend is nothing new. Just look at Kanye, or any current hip hop artist, really. But doing it yourself from the RealD 3D glasses you got last week at that movie you saw undeniably takes it to a whole new level of creativity.

Around ten million RealD glasses were used to see “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland,” which required 50,000 gallons of gas just to transport to theatres. {Treehugger} And though they are biodegradable, the question is, is it efficient?

Now the answer can be a big fat 3D yes. If people are actually using them post-movie viewing, that’s essentially another way of reusing or recycling the glasses. Way to be green, fashionistas!

Even people like men’s style writer David Hellqvist think the whole trend is absolutely ridiculous (along with all the people who join the tons of Facebook groups to show their sartorial objection), it’s helping people become more resourceful – a handy tool for those still grappling with the economy. And as we mentioned, it’s eco-friendly so there has to be some silver lining.

If you really think yourself above this new trend, get yourself a pair of designer 3D glasses before your next viewing of “Avatar” or “Up in 3D.” {Limelife} Look3D’s glasses (pictured above) offer a decidedly more stylish option. Regardless of how many hours you’re putting in with your favorite film, we’re sure those are glasses that won’t end up buried in an empty popcorn bag at the end of  the show.
