Anna Wintour’s Claws and Quirks Come Out

Anna Wintour, the force behind American Vogue, has unleashed Vogue‘s wrath upon poor, unsuspecting Victoria, Canada. Victoria was all geared to have a series of fashion shows of local designers and boutiques on June 17, dubbing the event Victoria Fashion’s Night Out, effectively re-using the name New York City fashion event sponsored by Vogue.

Wintour is infamous in the fashion world for her ability to alienate associates and belittle her inferiors. Despite her icy and demanding business demeanor, Wintour is the go-to person for everything fashion and trend related. She decides what’s in, what’s out, and what will become the next trend. Remember the book/film The Devil Wears Prada? Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley was based upon Vogue‘s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The depiction is apparently decently accurate.

According to Project Runway host Tim Gunn, the editrix can’t be bothered with elevators or stairs.

“I was with a colleague from Parsons, and we had been discussing the will-she-or-won’t-she-take-the-elevator question, so we ran over to the elevator bay to see if Anna would deign to get on. She wasn’t there. Then we looked over the stairway railing. And what did we see but Anna being carried down the stairs. The bodyguards had made a fireman’s lock and were racing her from landing to landing. She was sitting on their crossed arms.” {Page Six}

For what it’s worth, Vogue denies the elevator claims.

The claims they aren’t denying? Apparently, upon hearing of Victoria’s “Fashion’s Night Out”, Wintour and Vogue quickly dispensed their lawyers, threatening a lawsuit if the name was not changed. Organizers received a letter from Vogue‘s lawyers a mere day before the event, prompting a change in the event’s name to Victoria’s Fashion Night. {Vancouver Sun}

The lawsuit threat comes in defense of Vogue‘s event last year in New York City that is due to be repeated this year and expanded to fifteen other countries. The overseas events would be headed by the Vogue offices in those countries. A complete list of participating cities will be published in August, a month before the New York City kickoff on September 10. {Fashion’s Night Out}
