In an interview with WWD, Tom Ford confirmed that the $50 million ish in funding that Tom Ford International (via chairman and longtime business partner Domenico De Sole) was seeking earlier this year (so sparking twitters of excitement from fans (including us) hopeful that its intention were a Ford-lead re-launch) is indeed intended for his return to womenswear. After empowering Gucci with unprecedented success and irresistible sexiness, Ford left the group in 2004 and has been busy applying the Midas touch to menswear, beauty, eyewear, accessories, a film, and some opera costumes. {Wikipedia}
The timeline for his homecoming is yet to be determined. “Very soon” he told WWD, and dependent on when finances are secured, after which point the soothsayer predicts 18 months before show time.
And this time he’s committed: “I’m optimistic and this is something that I plan on doing for the next 30 years of my life, so if I have to wait another six months or a year [to launch women’s], it’s OK.â€
