Has Lady Gaga Become a Fashion Fame Monster? The Graduation to Subway Series Mess

What do you get when you cross Lady Gaga with a Convent of the Sacred Heart high school graduation ceremony? Answer: a tragic mix of terrible fashion and bad taste. Throw in some alcohol and lately, that’s been a repeat combination.

While we appreciate the wonderfully decadent and over the top fashion from Alejandro, not everywhere in the world is a stage. During performances, it’s nice to see something out of the ordinary and less commonplace. But at your little sister’s graduation? You may be aware by now that high school graduate Natali Germanotta’s older sister (that would be Ms. Gaga), sported “a sheer lacy bodysuit, heel-less platform shoes, and a wide-brimmed hat with netting reminiscent of a beekeeper,” to the younger Germanotta’s graduation ceremony. {Glamour} Or, in our words, something extremely, atrociously unnecessary.

Yes, Lady Gaga, we know you’re insane and make all sorts of crazy fashion statements that no one else would dare make (unless Madonna or Roisin Murphy did something similar years ago, but we digress…), but this crossed the line. Especially for someone who claims to hate the paparazzi.

And it seems that was only the start. In the following days came reports of Gaga flipping the bird while decked out in her skimpy Telephone prison costume. {Huffington Post} Then it was flying into a rage after a fellow diner – at what we’re assuming is a public restaurant, snapped a picture of the pop star in a sheer gown and nude veil. {Page Six}

And most recently? While her antics may not have gotten her banned, swigging whisky and grabbing your chest may not be uncommon at a baseball game, but goodness knows doing it while wearing nothing but a Yankee’s jersey over your underwear is not a way to avoid attention.

Self-expression through fashion is great, and it’s wonderful that some people have the gusto to be as extreme as they want to be because it makes them happy. But there are limitations, and if you push them, excuse us if we can’t muster up much sympathy for people gawking and trying to get a piece of the spectacle.

Even if everyone did like all of the resulting attention, Beyoncé said it best: “You’ve been a very bad girl. A very, VERY bad, BAD girl, Gaga.”
