Established photo-blogger Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist has been shooting show-goers for Style.com since Spring 2007, but was notably absent from New York with Twitterers and Fashionologie questioning his whereabouts. Suspicions of a replacement were confirmed today when Style.com posted an homage to Tommy Ton, of the blog Jak & Jil, as “The New Face of Street Style.”

Ton’s photos are just as glossy as Schuman’s, but his subjects tend to be grittier and on the more aggressive side of individual style. It’s likely content will be tailored for the Style.com audience , but nevertheless Ton brings new crops and a unique eye for details.

In our recent ranking, Schuman’s Sartorialist took the top spot among influential style blogs (Ton’s Jak & Jil ranked 33rd, and was the sole Canadian blog in the top 99). With a book deal and recognition in many circles beyond fashion, the change isn’t likely to detract from Schuman, but is certainly a gain for Ton.

We’ve been reading Jak & Jil since its inception and love the addition. Apparently we’re not alone – Jak & Jil won Dazed & Confused’s Best Blog Award – overall and by popular vote. Any bets on which ad campaign or editorial he’ll be shooting next season?
